Supporting Families

Are you looking after a relative whose health has gradually deteriorated?

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the challenges involved in managing your relative’s care?

Are you struggling to find your way around the maze of benefits and entitlements and need some guidance?

Our Family Care Advisers can provide you with one-to-one expert advice and support to help you make sense of your options and to balance your caring responsibilities with the rest of your life.

We will create a tailored support plan with you and the person you care for which may include any of the following:

  • Practical support
  • Money matters (help with accessing benefits, grants etc)
  • Legal matters (help with arranging power of attorney, deputyship, court of protection etc)
  • Assistive technologies/help with equipment
  • Access to the community
  • What to do in an emergency
  • Safety in the home
  • Navigating health and social care services
  • Your wellbeing as a carer

We offer free advice and information over the phone, Monday to Friday 9-5pm, on all matters relating to caring. If for whatever reason we are unable to help you, we will try to give you details of an organisation which can.

“Thank you so much for all this useful information and for all the time you gave me on the phone.”

Richenda – April 2018

Our consultation is a one hour home visit which gives you a chance to talk through your situation with one of our experienced Care Support Advisers.

You will receive a follow up report with recommendations and all of the information you need to keep on top of your caring role.

“It felt like we finally had clarity. For someone external to come in and pick through the emotions of a very difficult situation and help us find a way forward was absolutely invaluable. If I, as someone who is competent, confident and strong-willed couldn’t get the help we needed from social care in our time of need – how will others who are less confident manage? I find that very scary for other people.”

Clare from Norwich – February 2018

We will talk to you on the phone to assess your eligibility to receive a benefit before coming to your home to help you to complete a form.

We have supported people to fill in Carer’s Allowance, Attendance Allowance and PIP forms.

“Had I not been able to ask for your help, I would have abandoned the whole thing as going through the form seemed so difficult as to be not worth doing.”

Peter, Caister-on-Sea – November 2017

£50 per hour (plus travel).
